Shannon and Richard | Key West Wedding at Ocean Key Resort

Weddings are all about seamless moments, but sometimes, the unexpected happens. When the photographer originally booked for Shannon and Richard’s wedding fell ill while traveling abroad, we were called in to save the day. This is exactly why it’s so important to hire a local photographer for your destination wedding. If something goes wrong, we’ve got an entire network of talented colleagues to lean on. In the case of Shannon and Richard’s wedding, we were able to help out because their original photographer is someone we know, she reached out to their planner, who is also someone we know, and they called us to jump in. In less than 24 hours, we were able to step in, and Shannon didn’t have to stress.

The photos that resulted were the icing on the cake, with stunning water views, a lively Key West atmosphere, and heartfelt fun by all involved!

We began the day with Shannon and her bridal party getting ready in one of Ocean Key Resort's oceanfront suites. The suite offered a stunning view of the Gulf of Mexico and a partial Atlantic Ocean view, providing a picturesque backdrop for the bridal preparations. The excitement and joy in the air were palpable, and it was easy to capture those authentic, candid moments.

Once Shannon was dressed and ready, we headed outside to the ceremony, which took place on the Sun Deck of Ocean Key Resort, overlooking the stunning waters of Key West. The backdrop was perfect as they exchanged vows, surrounded by family and friends. The resort's central location in downtown Key West made it convenient for guests to attend, and the ease of movement between the ceremony and reception venues added to the day's seamless flow.

After the ceremony, we took advantage of the golden hour—the period shortly before sunset when the sunlight is softer and more diffused—to capture sunset photos by the pool. The warm, golden light during this time added a romantic glow to the images, enhancing the beauty of the couple and the surroundings. The unique quality of light at the end of the day can give photographs an emotional impact that's difficult to capture at other times.

Finally, the reception was an absolute blast, with everyone hitting the dance floor to celebrate. The resort's waterfront setting provided a magical ambiance as the evening unfolded, and the guests danced the night away under the stars. It was such a pleasure to document all the joy and excitement as Shannon and Richard celebrated their new life together.

It was a wedding we’ll never forget—and we’re so glad we were able to make sure Shannon and Richard had the perfect day.
